NELSON Mandela Bay's budget and treasury political head, Balu Naran, has done an about-turn from his earlier call for a clamp- down on refreshments at council meetings, saying diabetic councillors could not think on empty stomachs.
To avoid an embarrassing situation where councillors are not able to offer visitors refreshments, Naran called for the fridges of the mayor, deputy mayor, mayoral committee members, city manager, speaker, chief whip, executive directors and ward councillors to be stocked.
He also wants refreshments and food to be served at council and mayoral committee meetings.
All councillors, with the exception of the DA, supported Naran, even though it was not clear what the budget implications would be.
