YOUR front page report on Thursday August 22, regarding an alleged "pay hike" refers.
Your so-called "news" report contains a number of fabrications, distortions and misrepresentations.
This matter is exceptionally simple, and accordingly one must marvel at the creativity with which the article was concocted, that may have resulted in completely misleading and misinforming your paying readership.
Simply: all directors of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are remunerated at a grade referred to as "3838".
For whatever sinister reason, six of the directors were remunerated at two grades below this (Grade 16).
This, among other things, resulted in the somewhat ridiculous situation where two people who reported to me – actually earned more than I did.
Three of the directors have since left council and the others, including myself, have been relentlessly trying, through legal and other processes, to correct this clear unfairness.
I wish to place on public record that I am definitely not chasing money. If I was, I would easily have taken up any one of the many lucrative job offers which have made been to me, some of which would have more than doubled my current remuneration. I love my job, I love serving people and regard by role as a vocation rather than a contract of employment.
While I fully understand the need for sensationalism in an effort to boost sales, deliberate misinformation at the expense of what is clear, just and fair, cannot be acceptable.
I personally feel grossly abused and defamed by your publication. However, fully aware of how it works, I know that any process of ombudsman engagement will be protracted and distractful from my vocation.
I therefore simply appeal to your ethics of honesty in reporting the news and your humanity when contemplating the personal consequences of such reporting.
