THEODOR Herzl High School's Eco Club has won the regional round of the Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism Department Environmental Awards.
The club, which won R20000 the school will put towards an environmental initiative, will compete in the provincial finals next month.
Pupils had to come up with a concept that fitted the brief, "Renewable energy options a solution to Eastern Cape poverty".
Grade 10 pupil Christie Vaughn made thermal blankets for the homeless using empty chip packets.
