STAFF at Nelson Mandela Bay's traffic department downed tools yesterday, for the third time this year, after the city failed to deliver on a promise to increase their salaries this month.
The workers, who are at loggerheads with city bosses over salary grades, were last month promised by mayor Ben Fihla's task team that they would get their increases on August 25, subject to council approval.
The matter is yet to go to council. The increases are not budgeted for and the financial implications are unclear.
Yesterday, services at Korsten, Sidwell and Uitenhage traffic departments were brought to a halt as angry workers stayed away without notification to the public.
