THE SA Communist Party (SACP) provincial chairman in the Eastern Cape was yesterday appointed as the ANC chief whip in the provincial legislature.
Mzoleli Mrara, who previously chaired the education portfolio committee in the legislature, will take over the reins from Humphrey Maxhegwana.
Mrara said he was ready for the task ahead. "I welcome the new responsibility given to me. One is always combat- ready for the work of the ANC.
"I was comfortable as the chairman of the education portfolio committee because I have always been passionate about education, but I accept the new challenge. This was a total surprise.
