THE ANC and DA in Nelson Mandela Bay were deadlocked yesterday over whether to probe former mayor and current MP Zanoxolo Wayile for spending R270000 on upmarket restaurants and entertainment in his last months in office.
The bills, mostly from The Coachman, Cattle Baron and The Chapman restaurants, were racked up at a time when council had decided to tighten its belt to avoid slipping into another cash crisis.
Wayile was booted out of City Hall by President Jacob Zuma in March after he had fallen out of favour with the ANC regional leadership.
The former mayor, who responded to questions through his attorneys, denied any wrongdoing and even welcomed an investigation into the matter.
