ACTIVISTS against rhino poaching have raised concerns about an advert placed by Lukhanji Local Municipality calling for the purchase and removal of two white rhino bulls from a local game reserve.
The municipality advertised a tender on Friday in the Daily Dispatch for the removal of the rhinos, giving their location as Queenstown's Lawrence de Lange Game Reserve.
It has come under fire for giving an "invitation to poachers" by providing details of the rhinos, including their ages and the size of their horns.
Environmental Affairs Department spokesman Sixolile Makaula said the intention to sell the excess rhinos had to be advertised in terms of the Municipal Financial Management Act. – Mamela Gowa
