THE highest price ever for winter kid mohair was achieved this week at the second mohair sale of the 2013 winter season.
Mohair SA said a bale of super style 25-micron kid mohair sold for the record price of R400 per kg.
The sale took place in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, with 116448kg on offer and sale prices increasing on average by 3%. Mohair SA chief executive Deon Saaiman said the upward trend in the market was continuing.
Tuesday's sale offering consisted of good quality mohair, with 98% sold. The average market indicator closed on R112.14 per kg.
Compared to the previous winter season sale, prices were: kid (winter) up 4.6%, young goat (winter) up 4.3%, fine adult down 6.2% and strong adult unchanged.
The next sale will take place on September 17.
