ON Sunday August 25 at about 4.30pm we were walking our dogs on the beautiful Schoenmakerskop fynbos trail. Our well behaved dogs, both on leads, were charged by two ridgeback dogs whose owners had them both off leads, in spite of the area's leash laws.
Our beloved young male dog sustained injuries which cost us R1400 in veterinary bills. A few minutes later the same dogs attacked my friend's retriever (also on a lead), incurring a R850 veterinary bill. It was only a few minutes later, once we had left the area, that we noticed our dog was injured.
Being anxious to track the owner of the offending dogs, we noted the registration numbers of two cars parked at the trail entrance, presumably one of them belonging to these owners.
One was a white Tazz, registration FYX154EC, the other was a blue VW, registration DRC004EC. The dogs were an old female and a young male.
They were accompanied by a young woman with brown hair and a tall man.
We would like to make contact with the ridgeback owners and trust that if they see this letter they will have the decency to contact us. Alternatively, if any readers recognise the description and can supply identification, we can be contacted on 072-602-1917 or 082-945-3150.
