I READ in The Herald that Pravin Gordhan was setting up a task team to assist the municipality to strengthen its cash position! He will also help the municipality to recover the R1.9-billion owed to it.
This won't work as the staff meant to do the collecting of arrears has been on a "go-slow" since August last year! They don't do any work and still receive a pay cheque for it.
These staff make up at least three-quarters of the staff complement.
The others are working but can't carry the whole load alone.
Those on the "go-slow" are actually not even working at all. For them it's just a party! They bundle together in groups all day.
So no matter what Gordhan does, it will have little effect if the staff are not working.
