SOUTHERN Kings stalwart Schalk Ferreira will be lost to the SA provincial rugby scene for the next six months after accepting a contract with French club Toulouse.
This news was released yesterday by acting EP Kings chief executive Charl Crous, who said the 29-year-old prop would be leaving as soon as possible.
"Schalk's contract is subject to a fitness test, but he will be playing overseas and will return next year in time for the Currie Cup," Crous said.
Ferreira, a former Stormers player, was a key man in the Kings' pack this year and they will be keen that he return next year, especially if EP are promoted to the Currie Cup premier division.
The idea that the Kings will forego a Super Rugby promotion-relegation match with the Lions in return for a spot in the premier division seems to be gaining currency. The SA Rugby Union is expected to make a decision on that issue this month.
