SEVEN surgeons at Port Elizabeth's Livingstone Hospital have sued the provincial Health Department for R190000 in unpaid overtime.
This follows a ruling last year in which the Port Elizabeth Labour Court ordered that the department ensure its doctors did not work more overtime than stipulated in their contracts.
The doctors' attorney, Chris Unwin, said they were satisfied with the way the department implemented the ruling.
"They have, however, not paid the doctors for the overtime worked before the ruling," he said.
Eastern Cape health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said they were still gathering details on the case before they could comment. – Estelle Ellis
