RESIDENTS who make use of a low-lying road in Bethelsdorp every day are calling for the municipality to fix it as it floods every time it rains, making it difficult – and dangerous – for children to get to school.
Damaged and deteriorating Calpurnia Road is the most direct way for Sanctor high and primary schoolchildren to get to school. And the two schools are the only ones in the area within walking distance.
One alternative for the pupils is through the old Bethelsdorp cemetery where children have to cross a makeshift stone bridge. However, after heavy rains this also floods.
Another alternative – travelling via Stanford Road – means the children have to use taxis, which many cannot afford.
