FORMER president Nelson Mandela's discharge from hospital was proof that family members had lied to a court about his medical condition, his eldest grandson said.
Mandla Mandela, 39, alleged in a hard-hitting statement that the 15 family members had spread lies to bolster their application to have the remains of three of Madiba's children returned to Qunu, where he has said he wants to be buried.
In an application to the Mthatha High Court in May, lawyers representing the 15 family members – including Mandela's eldest daughter, Makaziwe, and Mandla's three younger brothers – claimed 95-year- old Madiba's death was imminent and they had been advised by doctors to switch off the machines keeping him alive.
Based on those submissions, Advocate David Smith and instructing attorney Wesley Hayes asked the court to hear the application as a matter of urgency.
