THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is investigating a range of measures to improve security at the metro's biggest and most dangerous tip site following the recent attack on a 65-year-old Port Elizabeth woman.
The range of problems at the Arlington tip on Victoria Drive include frequent fires, hygiene, excessive smells and security, both inside the premises and its surrounds.
A number of violent attacks have taken place on the site in recent years, including a murder.
Two weeks ago, 65-year-old Martie Fidder and her assistant were attacked and robbed in broad daylight at the site by a group of men, one of them armed with a knife.
Municipal spokesman Kupido Baron said yesterday 10 security guards were stationed there.
