THE Herald dated August 28 carried a letter from Viwe Sidali, "Officials must support the ANC". The opening paragraph states, "The ANC leaders are not failing us, but our ANC policy on cadre deployment is not loud enough".
I beg to differ! The ANC cadre deployment policy is an utter failure.
The cadres that the ANC deploy are not experts in the field to which they are deployed, but people and family members that the ANC leadership and "top brass" want to get onto the gravy train. This is at the expense of the taxpayer and the poorest of the poor.
The so-called "senior officials" employed specifically to ensure service delivery are not doing so. Most of them are incompetent or find other ways of spending the money allocated for service delivery.
Tenders are being awarded to unscrupulous, untrained contractors with no further supervision!
The National Development Plan is also mentioned. This "plan" was drawn up and completed more than a year ago, but like so many other plans and promises made by President Jacob Zuma, nothing has materialised.
This NDP, to any sane thinking person, is the way South Africa should be going. Unfortunately for South Africa, factions and labour unions within the ANC are not in favour of this plan so for now it is shelved. This is typical of the ANC – another national cock-up!
I am sure the ANC has "many professional and competent people". Now is the time to identify and appoint these people on merit and competency, ignoring gender, colour or creed.
