THIS is the reply NMMM via councilors gives in regard to urgent water issues.
"Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality issued the following urgent statement yesterday afternoon [August 28]:
"As a result of protest/industrial action at the Burchell Depot, the following streets are without water:
- "Sherwood: Caledon Street;
- "Westering: Taybank Road;
- "Summerstrand: Brighton Street;
- "West End: St Anne Street.
"When the situation normalises, repairs will be carried out."
This is unacceptable. Either private contractors must be called in to do the repairs and bill the NMMM, or the ratepayers need to go on strike and stop paying their rates and taxes.
We can't have a one way wins all system. The end user is paying and it's time for action, mass action of a proportion not yet seen.
It's time for all ratepayers to stop paying for useless service.
I am certain that vital services need to be exempt from strike action or a responsible contractor needs to be on standby during such events.
