BELOW is the reply I got from the traffic department. They don't get it – they need to change the beachfront lanes and make one a taxi lane so that what the taxis do all day is legal.
Why must we put up with this? On the day I wrote this there were two taxis parked in front of the Boardwalk hotel – it is just ridiculous.
If they don't change the road configuration, then they must police it and keep it legal for all road users. Really this is out of control.
"I am responding to your e-mail dated 25/08/2013 regarding law enforcement along the beachfront area. On Friday the 23rd August, we had a road block around the area and we prosecuted quite a number of law transgressors, therefore the allegation in your e-mail are not true.
"I would like further to assure you that it was not our first time nor the last time in that area. We will continue conducting law enforcement and make sure that the citizens and tourists of Mandela metro feel safe and protected on our roads.
"Thank you very much for your concern towards traffic safety.
"Regards, Acting Superintendent NP Hlanganyana."
