REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS
JJ OSSHER, your cynicism, a common thread in all your writing, reflects a dinosaur political mentality. Be honest. South Africa post- April 27 1994 is a far better place and the constitution guarantees human dignity for all. Before our miraculous peaceful transition to democracy the pot of gold belonged to white light before it passed through a prism to reflect the glorious colours of the rainbow. That is why apartheid was condemned as a crime against humanity.
LAKE Farm fete: Chirp, I quite agree. Ben and team do a sterling job. Do yourself a favour on a Saturday or Sunday 10am to 12.30pm and drive out along Kragga Kamma Road. You will see a big sign on the left to a lovely shop and coffee shop. Home-made eats and lovely gifts reasonably priced and served by cheerful residents are well worth the scenic ride.
"SYRIAN invasion disastrous": well said, DR Galloway! So glad somebody sees the West for what it is!
TO the guy from Jeffreys Bay, my wife has worked at a library for the NMB Metro for the last 22 years and she does not get paid close to a secretary's starting salary.
BLACK business in construction are the architects of their own problems. Look at the quality of the RDP houses, they speak volumes for themselves.
XOLA, once the students have repossessed the university, what are they going to do with it? Sell it? Teach themselves?
HAMILTON Petersen, if all male workers decide to have two families and demand more and more money to support them, how long do you think this country will survive? Do you think it is fair that the country should pay for the way they want to live? Two families for every mineworker? Get real!
HAMILTON Peterson, "starvation wages" can be determined by the number of dependants relying on that wage. More dependants will mean less money for the worker. Dependants (usually children and the unemployed) are not the responsibility of the employer!
IN BUSINESS FOR SOME TIME
THE porn DVD business has been in operation for as far back as 2004, if not before. Lucrative tax-free business. Legal Aid should be refused. Sis to everyone who supported their so-called business.

WHAT LAZY WORKERS!
TWO municipal workers clearing sand at the beachfront with a shovel took three digs, then a 15-minute break, another two digs, then left at 9.30am and walked to Summerstrand Village to kill time. What a lazy bunch.
TRAFFIC CARS MUST BE OUT ON ROADS
ACCIDENT: too often we see provincial traffic cars parked on the side of the road with officers just looking at the traffic or driving slowly on the left, causing an obstruction or parked with flashing lights in an unsafe place. They should be stopping more old cars or heavily loaded, badly packed open trucks with loads not secured properly, instead. Then we may see some progress in the road carnage fight.
DA TOLD MEETING WOULD BE POSTPONED
THE chief whip of council said the meeting would be postponed. That is why the DA did not enter.
CHURCH DEBATE ON HOMOSEXUALITY
CHRISTINA Engela's outburst directed at St Marks after the discussion on "Is gay OK?" indicates that they touched a raw nerve.
NIGEL Wakeford and his expert opinion on homosexuality: the Bible is an old book written by people, not God. You somehow believe it's the word of God, too huge an assumption for many peoples' intellects to entertain.

POOR MARCHING DISPLAYED
"PARADE celebrates new recruits": I hope they can do whatever else they do better than they can march. Bent arms, out of step – oooh eh eh.
A GROUP of 360 students showcased their marching skills at a passing out parade, but from the photo it seems they either did not look and listen, had a very poor instructor or two minutes' instruction.
KAZEKA Kuse, you are spot on when you say the government's refusal to fund the miners' counsel is unforgivable, but I blame Zwelinzima Vavi, Blade Nzimande, Gwede Mantashe and the other ANC top brass including the tripartite alliance for this mess. But we people are also part of this failed leadership, because we allowed these dictators to spoon-feed us with their choice of leadership and we have done nothing about it. Mangaung was a fine example. Jacob Zuma's election should have been stopped, but again we did nothing about it.
PROF Naude, your article about transformation in The Herald of September 3: 12 out of 10! Wish more people at the university would realise this!
THUMBS DOWN TO MUNICIPAL HOOLIGANS
TO the municipal hooligans who disrupted the Book Week day at the Newton Park library, I hope none of your children were there. Obviously the pupils in attendance are much more intelligent than the idiotic disrupters.

POLICE CADRE DEPLOYMENT MUST STOP
CRIMINAL cops: can the DA request an investigation into the qualifications and experience of the top cops? Cadre employment must stop.
HOW CAN POOL TILING COST R2m?
HOW on earth can it cost R2-million to fix the broken tiles at the Newton Park swimming pool? Can someone explain this?
