THE legal team for fraud-accused attorney Michael Randell withdrew yesterday after their client's co-accused refused to "relinquish his privileges".
Randell and former Greenwood Primary School principal Patrick Shelver were accused of defrauding the school of R2.5-million.
Shelver had earlier pleaded guilty and a separation of trials was ordered.
Both of the accused had been represented by attorney Danie Oelofse and advocate Johan Wessels.
But the two had to withdraw yesterday as they claimed they could not cross-examine Shelver, a key state witness.
Wessels told the court Shelver had been asked to waive his attorney-client privilege but had refused to do so.
The case was postponed to October 15 to allow Randell time to get new lawyers. – Hendrick Mphande
