THE Eastern Cape Education Department is confident its efforts to help academically struggling matric pupils will pay off, and believes a 70% pass rate will be achieved in the trials and final exams.
Matric pupils end their second incident-free week of trials today with 74650 sitting for the exams. The trials – set at the provincial head office in Bhisho – make up 25% of the final mark.
After past incidents of irregularities – such as leaked exam papers – the department this year bolstered security, roping in police for regular patrols at the 23 district offices where the papers were kept in "highly secured rooms".
