IS the justice system in South Africa mad – R500 bail for a man who allegedly confessed to murder ("Son confessed to killing girlfriend, says upset mother", September 3)? This proves to me just how cheap the justice system considers a person's life to be.
Someone who steals gets to pay more bail than that. The next step could be that rapists no longer have to pay bail at all and other criminals could also get released on own recognisance while awaiting trial.
This man who allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend should definitely not been given only R500 bail. He should still be in jail awaiting trial.
At this rate he will get off scot-free even though he allegedly confessed to the murder. I am truly disgusted.
