MUNICIPAL STAFF ON STRIKE CAUSE CHAOS
HOSTAGE drama: this is only the start. Wait until the residents start. Enough is enough.
THE anarchy happening in our metro must stop. Unions must pay for all damage caused. Ratepayers say enough is enough. We must have a rates boycott now.
ARE the library staff on full pay?
THESE strikers who held municipal workers hostage, ransacked the traffic department and disrupted the schools quiz in the Newton Park Library are nothing more than common criminals, and should be treated as such and jailed awaiting trial. But don't expect any action from SAPS. That's why this country is in such a mess.
HOW is it possible that striking traffic officials are allowed to keep their official vehicles and firearms? Clearly this metro is dysfunctional.
THE NMB libraries are always striking. We matric pupils need a place to study. If you take our sanctum where must we do so?
THIS is bad: councillors and officials locked in by strikers, because of the incompetent ANC's Ben Fihla who agreed to increase the municipal workers' salaries and promised to pay them. Two months have passed and nothing gets done, but the municipal strikers have done well with their actions. Thembinkosi Mafana now promises that their payments will be approved. Action is the way to go when talk is cheap.
WHY HUNT DOWN ALLIGATOR?
"SEE you later": I trust Dustin Bockman is proud of himself and the alligator he wiped out – why?
PRICE TO PAY FOR SPEAKING OUT
YES, Mr Seleoane, evil has to be fought, but how many are willing to pay the price like Giuseppe Impastato, Paolo Borsellino, Giovanni Falcone and Anna Politkovskaya? In this world, the man or woman of integrity stands, fights and dies alone.
BAN UNIONS AND THEIR MILITANT LEADERS
WHY are workers trying to sabotage their own country, in every field of employment? Unions are the real problem here so government must ban them and their militant bosses. Why are people loath to speak up on this issue?
SERIAL KILLER'S SENTENCE PUZZLING
I AM still struggling to get my head around the bizarre sentencing of serial killer and rapist Bulelani Mabhayi for the murder of 20 people and six rapes. He was given a total of 25 life sentences. Boiled down, what this means is that he will be eligible for parole after 25 years. In other words he will serve a year or so for each crime. These days a guy can go to jail for kissing a 15-year-old girl while a dangerous psychopath can go around raping and murdering woman and children by the dozen and get away with 25 years. Something's wrong.
MARK Wiggett, your sketch about the "Waterkloof whitewash blanket" was brilliant, but sooo poignant too. The higher they climb, the harder they fall.
YVON, CHARLO, PORT ELIZABETH
MARK Wiggett, I just love your humour. That snorting horse in Friday's paper was so funny you could almost hear him gallop on those bony legs.
BRICKBAT AND BOUQUET FOR THE HERALD
FIRSTLY, to write a lengthy article about an unfortunate soul afflicted by kleptomania and to brand her a "hooligan" is gutter journalism synonymous with your newspaper. Award yourselves "borderline imbeciles of the day".
BAYWORLD reopens: well done to The Herald for the first time in 10 months great news on the front page. I now ask the editor to get the Apple Express up and running before the festive season.
WHEN WILL STANFORD ROAD BE SORTED OUT?
CAN anyone explain when the traffic chaos in Stanford Road will stop? In the event of an accident, can I sue the municipality? Just check at peak hours on this very busy road.
HOW DO PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH DEBT?
IT is reported that household debt due to NMMM increased by R298-million last year. How do people get away with non-payment? If I miss a payment my electricity and water get cut off, plus interest and reconnection fees are charged. Please advise as I am obviously missing out on a lucrative dodge!
REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS
ROLAND Williams, I don't believe you underestimated the time from Lorraine to the Boardwalk, you were just too afraid of the direct questions you would have had to answer from the ratepayers.
WHY must the beachfront be changed to accommodate criminal taxi drivers, incompetent corrupt traffic officers and a lazy workforce who cannot walk an extra 30m? You are wrong lady.
DON'T give R Piyose so much coverage to write his drivel. The poor man is running out of constructive subjects to comment upon. Best he keep his boring and irritating remarks to himself.
LINDSAY AKA GOLLY
I DO not normally respond to personal attacks, but do not mind if any of the ANC's useful idiots take the bait. However, it is at the ANC decision makers that my barbs are aimed.
YES, Shawshank, I would also like to know how it can cost R2-million to fix pool tiles.
STREET LIGHTS FIXED
THE lights have been fixed in Humewood opposite the gym. Good.
