THE body of a young boy who was swept away in a canal in Addo on Monday was found yesterday morning.
Olwam Skritch, 4, and a group of children were playing next to the canal in Nomathamsanqa on Monday morning when he fell in and was swept away by the current.
"Olwam was only reported missing later on Monday afternoon and a search was conducted after 4pm. Members from the Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth Search and Rescue Team, as well as the police divers from Port Elizabeth searched for him," police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said.
"On Monday at 8pm the search was ceased due to the darkness and the strong current."
The search resumed yesterday morning and Olwam's body was found about 3km from where he fell into the canal.
Swart said the fence around the canal had been stolen. – Shaanaaz de Jager
