NMMU design students will step out in style on Friday as the fashion department holds its annual Free Creative Fashion Show at the north campus Goldfields Auditorium.
First and second year students have been given the platform to showcase their creativity by creating two garments each. Finalists will design special garments for the end of year Collective Fashion Show on October 25.
For Friday's show, the theme is Ancient Aliens – Myths and Legends. Students will conceptualise garments that are inspired by a specific region of the world – North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East, Asia or Australasia – and draw from its cultural past.
First year students will showcase two male and female lower bottom garments, paired with vests.
The second-year students are given a bit more freedom as they create garments with their own choice of colour. They will showcase two full outfits.
Tickets for the show, which starts at 7pm, are R50 each and can be bought at the door. There will be food on sale and a cash bar.
