IN response to your front page article, "R5-million payout for boerbul attack victim" (September 9), about Heila Greeff's payout, I was a witness to the incident. I saw how the dog dragged Greeff from one side of the road to the other, how people stopped to help, but could only stare, me one of them.
I could only call the ambulance, the police, etc.
The true heroes are the Muir College teachers who stopped to assist – they were by chance driving past, saw the situation and never gave a thought to their own safety. They fought off the dog, stayed with Greeff until the ambulance arrived and contacted her husband.
This attack has had an effect on our lives, I never take life for granted anymore. This could have happened to anyone walking past the house that day.
That day Greeff's whole life changed, but she has fought back with an amazing zest for life, she is such a beautiful, amazing person. R5-million is a lot of money, but is that enough for the future, to adjust to life with one arm?
Let's hope this never happens again.
