TWELVE pensioners facing possible eviction for not being able to afford the high rental hikes at their retirement villages have been dealt another blow – their lawyer has withdrawn from the case.
The pensioners, who stay at three homes under the auspices of the Afrikaanse Christelike Vrouevereniging (ACVV), have until September 19 to get another attorney who is willing to assist them.
This comes after they were served with summonses by the ACVV following non-payment of rent. In April they were told their rent was increasing by between 25% and 100%, depending on the unit.
