STREET islands in Grahamstown's central business district will receive a much-needed facelift to the tune of more than R1-million later this month.
The Makana Municipality has warned that people who trample on the upgraded centre islands will be fined.
The municipality and the Grahamstown Business Forum, Makana Business Development Forum and Grahamstown Hospitality Guild proposed the development and maintenance of the traffic islands in July. Municipal spokeswoman Yoliswa Ramokolo said about R1.3-million sourced from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) would be used for the upgrade.
