IN a titanic struggle, decided by the last doubles game of the tie, Aryan A moved to the top of the Nelson Mandela Bay premier league table tennis log with a narrow 6-5 win over closest rivals Booysen Park.
The first encounter set up the exciting pattern of play as Michael de Kock of Booysens came from behind in the third game to beat Dipal Bhana 8-11 13-11 13-11.
With the final doubles game to be played, the sides were deadlocked at 5-5.
Aryan captain Rajesh Bhana opted to use fourth player Tiger Pather with DipalBhana to take on De Kock and Chris Witbooi.
With Pather defending and Bhana attacking, they edged the Booysens pair 6-11 11-5 11-8.
The second encounter produced a similarly tight struggle, with Olympia shading Aryan B 6-5.
Monde Cola of Olympia was in fine form, winning all his matches and securing the last doubles with Selvan Sammy as they beat Shahied Mamoojee and Shahied Abrahams 13-11 12-10. In the first league, Despatch had their hands full against Aryan D juniors Mitesh Navsaria and Daniel Ward.
The matches were close, but in the end Despatch prevailed 7-4.
NMMU B beat St Mark and St John 8-3. Matthew Coombs of NMMU showed good form to win all his matches.
Malabar drew 5-5 with NMMU D, and the last match of the night saw an easy 10-1 victory for Aryan C over NMMU C.
