THE first Eastern Cape Provincial Khoisan Cultural and Heritage Summit at Bayworld in Port Elizabeth was cancelled yesterday – about seven hours after it should have started.
The Arts and Culture Department and the local organising committee were blamed for not providing enough transport and accommodation for tribe members travelling from outlying areas.
The department would have spent R250000 for the two days on accommodation, food, transport and the flights of guest speakers.
The summit, which was expected to be attended by about 250 people, is themed Khoeblia Oib Rebirth and Restoration of Khoisan People.
It will continue today, with organisers trying to fit in some of yesterday's activities.
