RESIDENTS of Kabah informal settlement in Uitenhage are questioning why they are still using the bucket system while newer, neighbouring communities received RDP houses almost two years ago.
Residents of Kabah, established more than 100 years ago, are still fighting for decent sanitation. But their pleas have fallen on deaf ears for more than 50 years, according to Margaret Africa, 60, who was born and raised in the area.
"I remember my parents and their neighbours fighting for sanitation when I was a little girl. I have been using the bucket system before these other settlements were even thought of and now that they are done I am still using the same bucket.
