THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has kicked off a two- month, citywide campaign to stop illegal electricity connections which have not only cost the metro millions of rands in losses but have injured and even killed people.
Illegal connections have also caused blackouts in parts of the city where transformers often blow up because of the overload.
The first of 16 service delivery roadshows, which aim to educate residents about the dangers of illegal electricity connections, was held in New Brighton on Friday. Residents were encouraged to report illegal connections.
