A MULTIMILLION-rand airport is being built in Somerset East, about 160km from Port Elizabeth.
"Somerset East ... is poised to make history, when a R413-million [regional] airport which is being constructed by the department ... is handed over to the town's council next year," Rural Development and Land Reform Department spokesman Mtobeli Mxotwa said.
Minister Gugile Nkwinti made the announcement at a memorial ceremony held at the Zuurberg heritage site on Friday.
Nkwinti also announced that roads would be upgraded and paved by the department's youth co-operatives division.
Mxotwa said plans to develop the Addo Elephant Park and Shamwari Game Reserve were also under way. – Sapa
