A SENIOR Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) official denied allegations yesterday that he hadmanipulated a tender process to give one company an unfair advantage. Assistant supply chain management director Sox Nkanjeni, 46, and businessman Mnyamezeli Dyala, 54, are standing trial in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.
They both pleaded not guilty yesterday to a charge of fraud. It is alleged they conspired with each other to ensure Dyala's company, Trade Lane Brokerage CC, was awarded a R200000 contract.
Trade Lane is the third accused in the matter.
The municipality is also in the process of investigating Nkanjeni, from Sherwood, for alleged tender irregularities relating to a R90-million security contract dating back to January 2010.
In the current matter it is alleged Nkanjeni, who was responsible for evaluating tenders, tampered with the applications to ensure the tender went to Trade Lane Brokerage.
