WITH just a month to go before Nelson Mandela Bay's Ward 5 by-election, the campaign for control of the zone is gaining momentum as the ANC hopes to make inroads in the DA stronghold.
While the DA believes young attorney and councillor Morné Steyn is a sure bet to retain majority support in the Central and Richmond Hill area, the ANC is resting its hopes on crime-fighter Mike McCormack.
Steyn and McCormack will be vying for position of ward councillor, a gap left by former DA councillor Jeremy Davis who resigned last month due to ill health.
The Ward 5 by-election will be held on October 23. The DA won 85% of the votes in the 2011 local government elections.
