CONVICTED wife beater Frederick Gordon created a spectacle in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court yesterday when he fired his attorney just moments before pre-sentence arguments were to be heard.
He also asked the court to indefinitely halt sentence proceedings because the documents before the court were "fraudulent".
The trial, which dates back to 2011, was once again postponed yesterday when Gordon, 44, asked his Legal Aid Board attorney, Ramona van Vuuren, to step down. He wanted a new state-appointed attorney.
Magistrate Chris Kruger granted a postponement to allow Legal Aid to consider the request. However, he warned Gordon that should his application fail, he would have to represent himself in arguing mitigation of sentence.
