WE are hungry sisi, this is why we are doing this." So said a young boy, one of hundreds of township residents who were looting from shops in Kwazakhele yesterday, as he went up and down the township's streets with looters.
The healthy-looking skhothane (show-offish) teenager was standing with a few of his mates talking about the best way to get inside a shop without being noticed by the police on guard outside.
He was one of the scores of residents fighting for scraps as the shop owner threw food, cooldrinks, fruit, sweets and bottled water through a gap in his door.
People who should know better were stepping all over each other to catch the scraps as they flew over their heads.
