THE cream of amateur soccer talent in the metro will gather at the NMMU South Campus this weekend for the annual Safa-NMB Inter-district Tournament.
The three-day tournament gets under way this evening with two matches. In the early match, Kuyga FA (Kuygafa) play Walmer FA (Wafa).
The late game is between hosts PE Football Association (Pefa) and the Industrial League FA (Ifa).
In the men's section, 12 football associations affiliated to Safa-NMB and a team from the Industrial League have been divided into four groups and will play a round-robin.
The winners of each group will advance to the knock-out stage for the semifinals and finals on Sunday.
In last year's men's final, Motherwell FA (Mofa) beat Pefa in a penalty shoot-out.
They are expected to dominate the tournament once again.
However, the traditional group of death should be Group D with Nodefa, Zwide FA (Zwifa) and Kwazakhele (Zafa) battling it out.
Eleven teams will compete in the women's section.
In last year's women's final, Pefa beat KwaNobuhle-Despatch FA (Nodefa).
Pefa also had the top goal-scorer and coach of the tournament.
