THE DA in Nelson Mandela Bay has vowed to take the municipality to court after the ANC yesterday rammed through council an allegedly rigged process of establishing ward committees which was started two years ago.
The threatened legal action is bound to delay even further the process of electing community leaders who are meant to fight for the needs of their communities. The Bay is the only metro in the country without ward committees since 2009.
After trying for months to overturn a decision taken by council in December, which agreed that the election process headed by councillor Thembinkosi Mafana in 2011 was flawed, the ANC finally drummed up the numbers needed to push it through. The party, along with the UDM, does not want the process to be started afresh.
