ABOUT 10 homes are burgled every 12 hours in Nelson Mandela Bay, with at least eight houses robbed with aggravating circumstances each week. This is according to an analysis of the crime statistics released yesterday.
The figures show residential burglaries have spiked in the Bay, with 7474 reported between April last year and March this year, compared to 6761 in 2011-12.
This marks the highest number of house burglaries since 2009. The hardest-hit area in the Bay is the Walmer policing district, with 1000 cases reported during the past financial year.
