HAVING regained control of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's student representative council, Sasco regional chairman Luzuko Ntshongwana has vowed to hand over the youth vote to its mother body as gratitude for the ANC's support throughout their campaign.
The election shines the spotlight on the support for the ANC and DA among the city's student voters, which is seen as an indicator of voting trends among educated youth. Bolstered by a convincing win of 14 seats over Daso's seven, incoming NMMU SRC president Ntshongwana said Sasco would try to convince students to extend their support to the ANC for next year's general election.
Sasco put up a spirited campaign devised with the help of influential businessmen in the city who worked behind the scenes with student leaders to drive it. The ANC also sent in party bigwigs such as deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte.
