THE article "Martin vows to go on serving – and blasts DA" (September 18) by Tremainne van Aardt and the oblivious comments made by DA Caucus leader Leon De Villiers about the mentality of the people of the Northern Areas, has reference and dares not go unchallenged.
De Villiers said: "Summerstrand has always had a regular refuse collection". Also that "the mentality of people in the communities is different with regard to littering".
This statement underlined with reactionary tones of apartheid of the so-called distinguished mentality of the Summerstrand community, substantiates the very same "peacock" analogy.
While the DA brags about its ability to govern the Northern Areas and continuously lambasts the municipality, it has indeed exposed its "scrubby feet", by undermining the intelligence of this community.
It is true that most of those who constitute the DA today were in bed with the evil apartheid mentality which bulldozed the gardens, homes, and blossoming future of the people of South End and dumped them out on the periphery away from the "better behaved community".
Today just because De Villiers wants to score cheap political points, he undermines and tramps on the dignity of the people in this community.
The determination of the DA to label our people whom have suffered more than enough humiliation though apartheid is equal to saying that we the people of the Northern Areas are less humane than the people of Summerstrand.
This is why the DA is a perfect fit for Martin's "peacock analogy".
