LET me congratulate Sasco for claiming back NMMU by saying Aluta continua!
Daso never had the interests of students at heart with all the lies they peddled.
I read how they claimed easy victories within a year in office and I wondered how this propaganda would blow up in their faces one day and that day came in the form of the 2013 SRC elections.
I read how they claimed the shuttle service victory and I wonder where Daso was when the likes of Nqaba Bhanga, Chusta Mabandla, Dali Jacobs, Brenton Jonas, Phakamile Daca, Mfundo Sobele, Mawethu Rune, Zana Vuyani, Khaya Madyibi and many others fought for equalisation and harmonisation of service at NMMU at the beginning of the NMMU merger.
I remember how comrades of Sasco used to sleep at 3am in the morning simply because there were caucuses to strategise when student leadership was about to meet management of NMMU as led by the then first VC Dr Rudolph Stumph.
It was enduring times indeed and a number of victories were won and if I were to count them the space won't be big enough here.
What has Daso achieved while in governance at NMMU?
I remember how comrades of Sasco would be the first ones to arrive on campus in January to help students through their "right learn" campaign and indeed many students can attest to this.
Many students were not turned away on the basis of financial exclusion.
Where was Daso?
Why did they claim Sasco victories that Sasco fought for through blood, sweat and sacrifice of the previous Sasco leadership?
Daso must know you can't tell lies and claim easy victories.
Students will always vote intelligently from now on as they have seen how useless Daso was in dealing with student issues.
Where are the experts who told us about changing voting patterns when Daso won the SRC elections?
Where are those who thought the SRC election victories would translate to local government elections or perceived results?
The struggle for democracy in higher education continues indeed!
