FORMER Two Oceans winner George Ntshiliza made up for the disappointment of pulling out of the Legends Marathon run from the Bhisho Stadium to East London last week when he won the Afri-Save Cash and Carry Muirite Marathon in Uitenhage on Saturday.
Despite tough conditions, 176 runners completed the marathon which started and ended at Muir College.
Ntshiliza finished in two hours, 38 seconds, more than a minute ahead of Nedbank teammate Mila Payisa (2:39:07). Melikhaya Malinga (Motherwell, 2:52:42) was third.
Gonubie Harrier athlete, Lauren van der Walt won the women's race in 3:37:30. Janine Gardiner (Charlo) finished second in 3:39:04, with Michelle Galloway (Absa NMMU) third in 3:47:03.
In the 10km race, Maxwell Heugh (Motherwell) finished ahead of Maxwell Goodman (Malabar) and Sibusiso Thu (Transnet) in 32:32.
Heugh was also the first junior home, beating Brendon Effenaar (Maxed Elite) and Mandlikhe (Transnet).
In the absence of Ntombisentu Mfunzi, who has dominated Port Elizabeth roadrunning, Sanada Solani (Nedbank) won the women's title in 44:38.
Megan Wilson (Charlo) finished second in 45:47 with Terray Newcombe (Elite) third in 46:13.
Wilson was the first junior woman home in the race, beating sibling Kimberly and Danielle Harkin (Absa NMMU).
