THE usually quiet holiday resort at Beachview in Port Elizabeth will come alive this week with the sound of screeching tyres and high-revving super bikes.
A total 4500 bikers from around the country and some from overseas are expected in the city for the annual Dolphins Rally, running from Thursday to Sunday.
As one of the highlights on the biking calendar, the charitable riders are hoping to exceed the R300000 raised for Ithemba Special Care Centre last year.
All proceeds from this year's rally at the Beachview Resort will be in aid of the Cansa association's "Tough Living with Cancer" (TLC) programme.
"Over the past 13 years, most of the money has gone to schools in the northern areas. So children have always been close to these bikers hearts.
"We decided on TLC because we won't just be helping children but rather families," rally spokesman Dean Martin said.
"We are urging all who attend, if you can't give money, please donate food or blankets." Martin said.
Port Elizabeth drag-racer and high school pupil Dayaan Padayachee, 17, said a highlight of the rally would be the electric atmosphere.
"It is always fun attending the Dolphins Rally.
"Seeing bikers you know creates a festive feeling which all the bikers feel and take advantage of," Padayachee said. - Tremaine van Aardt aardt
