I QUIVER with pain to see how many women are disrespected by men in our country due to rape. For a country of such young democracy it is paining and beyond imagining.
What is surprising is the widespread reports indicating the rape of women by the police. It is a disturbing matter that police themselves have gender insensibility towards survivors.
This country needs to improve its sentencing. The courts need to stop the acquitting of perpetrators, and take into consideration that rape is a serious offence and places enormous pressure on the survivor.
The number of women who hold our country together, such as the doctors, nurses, teachers, sisters and mothers, must stand together again and rip this evil out for good. Police must be equipped fearlessly and rigorously to investigate any report of rape or domestic violence that they receive, and ensure the justice system is fair.
