THE Education Department has been dragged to the Port Elizabeth High Court over the alleged unlawful appointment of a principal at a Catholic primary school in Uitenhage.
The application, made by Little Flower Primary School, claims the appointment of principal Zanoxolo Kama, made by the department, was "unlawful and fatally flawed".
Respondents in the matter include Education MEC Mandla Makupula and superintendent-general Mthunywa Ngonz. Due to her power of oversight, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, has also been cited.
Chairman of the school governing body (SGB) Mbuyiseli Mdushane claims due process was not followed, but his deputy Mzukisi Pikinini denies this.
