THE Nelson Mandela Bay political leadership is preparing to challenge an instruction by the national Treasury not to officially appoint Mod Ndoyana and Mamisa Chabula-Nxiweni as senior managers.
This comes two weeks after the Treasury opposed plans by council to rubber-stamp the appointment of the two as acting corporate services executive director and acting chief operating officer respectively.
Ndoyana was the mayor's adviser and the Treasury objected to his appointment to an administration post. Chabula-Nxiweni's appointment would have gone against the city's organogram approved in December, which no longer provides for a COO position.
The appointments have been a bone of contention in council.
Deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba said yesterday the letter from Treasury director-general Lungisa Fuzile "strongly recommending" the appointments be halted, took them by surprise.
