THE press reports and SMSes in The Herald regarding the unfair treatment of older persons living in the ACVV homes need to be seen in the right perspective.
The tenants who have shared a small flatlet for years have unfortunately to give up this accommodation when one of the spouses dies.
One has sympathy, but unfortunately long waiting lists force the management then to ask residents to move to smaller rooms so that the flats can be rented out to a couple.
The government does not give any subsidies to the ACVV, and the homes must be run frugally on the income derived from rentals and fundraising.
