A SECURITY guard was shot in the knee at the Arlington tip in Port Elizabeth yesterday after he tried to stop a vehicle leaving the landfill.
The guard tried to halt the vehicle after it entered the tip, left and then returned later.
Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said one of the men in the vehicle opened fire.
"The guard returned fire," she said.
Police believe the vehicle's occupants, four men and a woman, may have been looking for someone who had drawn a large sum of money to pay workers.
